Sometimes they come back!!

For the second time we will be honored to host inside our club for the closing weekender of Dance with the devil at Trenta Formiche in Rome, Bill Kealy!

Was bitten by the record collecting bug at an early age and started djing at Scooter and Mod events in the late 80s playing mainly Mod Revival and 60s Mod stuff.
from there I delved a little further back and discovered the wonderful world of Rhythm & Blues....
I've promoted many clubs over the years and at the moment I run the 'For Dancers Only' nights in Dublin and I'm also a resident at The Federal R&B Club in Crewe.
I've been very lucky to get to play records  in many beautiful places around the UK & Europe and I'm very much looking forward to coming back to play at Dance With The Devil, last time was just amazing!!

Here a little introduction to one of our guest djs for the Dance with the devil wild weekender of April at Trenta Formiche in Rome!!

We are really honored to introduce the mighty Gav Arno!!

I first became aware of the Mod scene in the early 80's and started calling myself a Mod in 1984! From then on I began a lifelong love affair with the music of the era. From RnB, Boogaloo, Funk and Soul to Ska, Garage, Beat and even a touch of Psych - some brilliant tunes in all genres. The more obscure the better for me, although it is definitely what's in the groove that counts!
I've DJ'd quite a few places over the years and always get a buzz from playing new tunes (new to me that is!). 
I tend not to rely on the heavy hitters so hopefully you might hear a few tunes that you don't hear much elsewhere.

Really looking forward to Dance with the Devil!!

I have started buying records in the 60’s when i was a mod in Liverpool and the visits to family in Ohio over the years helped my collection grow.
During thise years, i’ve been privileged and honoured to be asked to play in some fabulous venues in Europe and the Uk.
Now I'm looking forward to my trip over to Rome and to be sharing the decks with the other two lovely ladies and dj’s!!

Valentina Savio for Dance with the Devil - 17 Marzo @ Trenta Formiche - Roma

Here a little introduction to one of the three djs for the night of March of Dance with the devil at Trenta Formiche!

Here the sunny Valentina Savio!

I made my first moves into the so-called Soul Scene in the late 90s. my hometown Genoa already had strong connections to Soul Music thanks to collectives like Black Trefoil Soul Club which is supposed to be one of the oldest clubs in Europe. Very quickly I  found herself immersed in the Italian Niter scene and discovered Soul Music.
Regular visits to up-front clubs like "Breakout" (Milan), "Voice your Choice" (Vincenza), "Covo" (Bologna) and the Rimini Soul Weekender since 2002 - which  now i'm promoting with friends, celebrating soon the 15th birthday! - made me get deeper into it.
Those events give me the opportunity to listen to great Soul Music provided by not only Italian DJs but also a lot of international guests.
But Italy wasn't enough. Soul Music made me travel to the UK frequently, to events like Cleethorpes and Fleetwood (Tent), which was the place where i fall in love with 70s Soul and Crossover Soul. Most important reason - besides dancing - is the chance to meet people and share the same interest, not to say: passion!

I started collecting records recently and playing them on events including new Soul club in Milan Soul Yard, that i co-organize with my friends Stefano Oggiano, Alvise Reverdini and Simone Favre.
Looking forward to spin some tunes and night of dancing, beer and laughs in the bunker!

Here a little introduction to one of the three guest djs of the March night of Dance with the Devil at Trenta Formiche!

Here the lovely Emel Ilter!!

Hello, I'm Emel. I'm one of Lucerne’s Rare-Soul-crafters and organizer of the NOT TOO YOUNG Swiss Soul Weekender in Lucerne.
I'm part of the «Spin Club Lucerne» alongside my mentor and biggest supporter Henning von Herzen (fka. Boogaloo), playing black music from 60's to today.
I started collecting HipHop samples in first place until I realized how vast Soul Music actually is, still loving the mellow, sweet and funky-edged headbanging pieces with an obscure touch.
Some of you might know my «Sweet Deep & Mellow» mixtapes that depict quite well my favourite style. But don't be afraid you hopefully won't fall asleep on the event.
I have never been to Rome and never danced with the devil so my knees are weakening and in my dreams and dealing with what to presente il popolo maledetto.
The food may be my saviour so I am really looking forward to meeting you fine people and the pope.

13th & 14th April 2018 - The wild side of Dance with the Devil - Trenta Formiche - Roma

Per concludere al meglio questa stagione del Dance with the devil, abbiamo deciso di strafare e ancora una volta per due notti consecutive invaderemo il Trenta Formiche, ma questa volta vi mostremo il lato più torrido del diavolo!
Venerdi' 13 Aprile avremo il piacere di ospitare live sul palco del Trenta Formiche GLI AVVOLTOI formazione bolognese esponente di spicco della scena psichedelica/beat italiana e attiva ormai da più di venti anni in tutta Europa.
Sabato 14 invece ci concentreremo come di consueto sul versante danzareccio! Con noi, per le due nottate, avremo il meglio del meglio del RnB e del soul in circolazione, ovvero ospiti con noi dietro la console avremo direttamente dal The Pow Wow Club di Sheffield, Gav Arno e Callum Simpson e il graditissimo ritorno di Bill Kealy e di Luigi "Slim" Fiore!

Friday April 13th we will have the pleasure of hosting live on stage at Trenta Formiche gli Avvoltoi from Bologna, training exponent of the psychedelic/ beat italian scene and active for over twenty years throughout Europe.
Saturday 14th instead we will focus as usual on the dance side!
With us, for the two nights, we will have the best of the best of RnB and soul around, so guests with us behind the console we will have directly from The Pow Wow Club of Sheffield, Gav Arno and Callum Simpson and the return of Bill Kealy and Luigi Slim Fiore!

Ecco a voi una breve introduzione al nostro ospite Alex Claretto con cui avremo il piacere di condividere piatti e malandrinate Sabato 17 Febbraio al Trenta Formiche per la seconda data del 2018 del Dance with the Devil !

Mi chiamo Alex, sono nato nel 1991 in provincia di Torino. Mi sono avvicinato alla scena Mod 10 anni fa e circa nello stesso periodo ho cominciato collezionare, iniziando dal Beat Italiano che trovavo per i vari mercatini e fiere della Penisola e appassionandomi nel frattempo alla musica nera in cui ora sono immerso totalmente.
Una delle cose che amo di più è  proprio andare all’estero a caccia di dischi, cercando di scovare rarità o curiosità.   Quello che proporrò nelle mie selezioni spazierà dal Rare Soul all' R&B  con qualche intermezzo di Funk, Crossover e Garage .
Ho messo dischi in molte città della Penisola , in Francia, Belgio, Spagna e Germania in svariati eventi Mod, Soul e Scooteristici.
A tempo perso gestisco anche un canale Youtube dove potete ascoltare qualcuno dei miei dischi .

Ecco a voi una piccola introduzione di Marco Starri, nostro ospite Sabato 17 Febbraio al Trenta Formiche per il Dance with the Devil!

Ciao a tutti! Sono Marco Starri da Trieste, dove nel 2009 ho cominciato a selezionare i miei umili dischetti con i Glory Boys Trieste. Nel 2012 è poi cominciata l’avventura Move On Up Mod Club assieme all’amico Michael Myers, mentre ad aprile 2017 è nato, in collaborazione con Andrea e Mitja di Intermission Trieste, il progetto Hip City Trieste. Oltre alla scena locale, negli anni ho avuto la fortuna di essere invitato a mettere i dischi ad alcune delle più importanti serate italiane (Teramo, Torino, Genova, Rimini, Pordenone...) ed anche all’estero (Euroyeye, Le Clean Cut, Mousetrap, RnB123, For Dancers Only...)
Sono un Mod ed un amante della musica afroamericana su vinile originale, soprattutto del periodo che va dalla metà degli anni 50 ai primissimi 70. Negli ultimi anni mi sono quindi concentrato sulla ricerca dei suoni riconducibili alla sfera Mod, quindi Jazz, RnB, Rare Soul, con un pizzico di Latin e di Ska e Reggae, che è ciò che proporrò con molto piacere al Dance with the Devil il prossimo 17 Febbraio! Non ho mai messo dischi a Roma, quindi non vedo l’ora!

Mitomani Beat at Dance with the Devil - Sabato 17 Febbraio 2018 - Live at Trenta Formiche - Roma

Ecco a voi una breve introduzione del gruppo che avremo il piacere di ospitare Sabato 17 Febbraio live sul palco del Trenta Formiche per il Dance with the Devil!

I Mitomani Beat si sono formati a Roma nella primavera del 2010 con l'intento di ricreare le atmosfere tipiche della rivoluzionaria stagione del beat italiano.
Grazie ad un'approfondita ricerca dei pezzi, la cura del suono, l'uso di strumentazione d'epoca e non ultimo un look adeguato, ogni loro concerto si trasforma in un autentico tuffo nel passato.
Il repertorio comprende pezzi originali, seconde versioni (cioè pezzi dell'epoca in inglese tradotti in italiano) e cover tra pezzi famosi (come "Tutto nero", "Bang bang" o "Ragazzo di strada") alternati a brani meno conosciuti ma ugualmente coinvolgenti.
L'esordio è avvenuto nel giugno del 2010 e da allora hanno suonato in alcuni importanti locali della capitale quali il Circolo degli Artisti, l'Angelo Mai, il Traffic (di spalla ai britannici Barracudas), partecipando tra l'altro al "Twiggy party", al “Giovedissimo”, al “Supersanto's”, al “Cinsano Village”, alla “Notte Magnetica” ed esibendosi in numerosi festival in giro per l'Italia.
Dal giugno 2010 hanno pubblicato tre demo e nel febbraio del 2014 è uscito il loro primo album di pezzi originali dal titolo "Fuori dal tempo", prodotto da Area Pirata e Green Cookie Records. A maggio del 2017 hanno pubblicato una demo di quattro pezzi, due originali e due seconde versioni.
La formazione attuale comprende Marco alla voce e chitarra, Stefano al basso, "Il Maestro" all'organo, Orlando alla chitarra solista e Panta alla batteria.

The Partime Lovers at Dance with the Devil - Sabato 13 Gennaio 2018 - Live at Trenta Formiche - Roma

Ecco a voi una breve introduzione del gruppo che avremo il piacere di ospitare Sabato 13 Gennaio live sul palco del Trenta Formiche per la prima data targata 2018 del Dance with the Devil!

I Partime Lovers sono una banda fortemente influenzata dal sound della Motown e della Stax records, con un suono intriso del sound dei classici e delle rarità della storia del Soul e del Northern Soul.
Il gruppo inizia a formarsi nel 2015 dall'incontro di musicisti provenienti da vari altri progetti e nel 2016 si consolida come formazione definitiva iniziando nella capitale una serie di live travolgenti, grazie ad un pubblico sempre caloroso e soprattutto ballereccio.
Questa speciale accoglienza dà la carica alla band per registrare alla fine del 2016 il primo EP ufficiale, Roma Soul Gang, 3 cover di soul caldo e struggente degli anni 60, autoprodotto insieme a Ermes records.
Attualmente la band sta lavorando a brani originali di cui presto si sentirà parecchio parlare e che speriamo avremo anche il piacere di ascoltare live al Trenta Formiche il 13 Gennaio!

Here a little presentation of Marc Forrest, our guest dj at Dance with the Devil on Saturday 13th January at Trenta Formiche!

I started DJing kind of accidentally at a Mod Club in Berlin New Year’s Eve in 1986.
4 years later I found myself doing weekly SOUL shows on radio plus  the Hip City Soul Club Berlin had been founded and since then continues to present bi-monthly Rare Soul allnighters.
At the Hip City Soul Club we try to focus on semi- and unknown Rare Soul from the mid Sixties to mid Eighties with a good extra shot of classy established rarities thrown in for good measure.

Una breve introduzione al nostro ospite del Dance With the Devil Sabato 18 Novembre al Trenta Formiche!

"Per tutti coloro che non mi conoscono, sono solo un alto, calvo e che colleziona e suona la migliore musica che riesco a trovare in circolazione. Sono cresciuto nella scena Northern soul, scooteristica e dei club mod dell'Inghilterra del Nord negli anni '80. Non ho mai smesso sia di ballare che di comprare dischi!  Al giorno d'oggi, i suoni 6Ts e R&B sono quelli che mi scatenano una maggiore gioia, ma continuo a comprare anche altri suoni che mi piacciono: Funky-edged soul, Jamaican, Rocking Blues, qualche pezzo garage, anche qualche pezzo piu' moderno - fino a che lo considero bello !!
Ho la mia serata londinese, Black & Blue e ho suonato per moltissime serate in tutta l'Inghilterra, il Regno Unito e l'Europa negli ultimi due decenni, seguendo sempre la stessa regola d'oro: NO FILLER, ALL KILLERS!
Con questa regola in mente, non vedo l'ora di venire a Roma a Novembre per mettere giù alcune delle mie tracce preferite per voi!
E ovviamente, sono stra-eccitato di "ballare con il diavolo" in persona ..."

"For those who haven’t bumped into me, I’m just a tall bald bloke who collects & plays the best music he can find. I came up through the Northern Soul, Scooter and Mod scenes of the 80’s in the North of England (originally from Manchester).
I’ve never stopped dancing, never stopped buying tracks. Nowadays, the harder 6T’s and R&B end of it hold most joy for me although I still buy anything I like: Funky-edged soul, Jamaican, Rocking Blues, some garage, even modern - just as long as it’s good!!
I’ve run me own little London thing (Black and Blue) and played for others all over England, UK and Europe over the last couple of decades, following the golden rule: No fillers, all killers!

Le Birrette at Dance with the Devil - Sabato 14 Ottobre 2017 - Live at Trenta Formiche - Roma

La stagione 2017/18 del Dance with the Devil non poteva desiderare un inizio migliore con lo splendido live de Le Birrette e ospiti in console i nostri amici del Bologna Calibro 7 Pollici!
Ecco una breve introduzione dei nostri ospiti, anzi delle nostre ospiti che suoneranno live sul palco del Trenta Formiche!

Le Birrette sono una ska band tutta al femminile nata a Bologna a fine 2014.
Queste 10 ragazze hanno in comune due grandissimi amori : la birra e la musica giamaicana degli anni 60/70! La loro scelta è quella di esplorare gli anni d'oro della musica giamaicana suonando dallo ska, al rocksteady, reggae roots!
Ispirate dai vocal trios come The Tecniques, The Gaylads, The Pioneers e dalle band strumentali leggendarie delle sessions Studio One e Treasure Isle come The Skatalites, Sound Dimension e The Soul Vendors, in un anno la band ha già aperto moltissimi artisti internazionali come Johnny Osbourne, The Skatalites, The Aggrolites, The Uppertones e molti altri.
A Marzo è uscito il loro primo 45'' completamente autoprodotto e registrato in stile Giamaicano in presa diretta e mono presso L'amor mio non muore mai studio con A Side un loro pezzo originale come Mr.A e con B side "Blue skies", mix perfetto tra Ella Fitzgerald e Satta Massagana degli Abyssininas.

A Maggio sono state in Giamaica partecipando all'Ocho Rios Jazz Festival e ora avremo l'onore di ospitarle dentro il nostro bunker del Trenta Formiche!

La nuova stagione ha inizio!! Appuntamento al 30 Formiche sabato 15 ottobre!
E con noi, a tenerci compagnia ci sara' uno dei nostri collezionisti preferiti!

HENRIK AKERBERG (The Pacemaker, Stockholm)

Ho iniziato a collezionare dischi degli anni 50 e 60 quando mi hanno chiesto di iniziare a mettere musica in un Tiki bar a Stoccolma circa 10 anni fa. Da allora, ho suonato moltissimi generi, dalla musica hawaiana, la jungle music, l'exotica, il surf il latin fino ad arrivare al calypso. Attualmente colleziono principalmente rare R&B, soul e blues, ma devo dire che i miei gusti sono ancora molto influenzati da quei suoni con cui ho iniziato. Attualmente  sono il fondatore di una serata a Stoccolma, the Pacemaker, in collaborazione con il mio compare Marcus Hjoberg.
Nel corso di questi anni ho avuto il piacere di essere invitato come ospite in molti club in Europa, come il Jukebox Jam e il Band-e-Part di Londra, il Soulful Torino,  il Jester Wild in Germania e il Boiler Club in Spagna! Tempo di aggiungere alla lista anche il Dance with the devil!
